Waar Portugese fado, Braziliaanse bossa nova en jazz elkaar zachtjes raken.

Een warme stem, een verfijnde gitaar en een repertoire dat je meeneemt van Lissabon naar Rio: dat is TERRALUZ. Het duo, bestaande uit zangeres Ema Lucas en gitarist Andrès Huhner, brengt een intieme mix van Portugese fado, Braziliaanse bossa nova en jazz.

“We zijn allebei dol op muziek die verhalen vertelt” vertellen ze. “Muziek met emotie, nostalgie en culturele rijkdom.” Die voorliefde hoor je terug in hun interpretaties van klassiekers, maar ook in hun eigen arrangementen vol improvisatie en persoonlijkheid.

Hun repertoire bestaat uit bossa’s, fado’s, samba’s en jazzballads, altijd zorgvuldig gekozen om het publiek mee te nemen op een emotionele reis. Op dit moment werken ze aan een akoestische EP, die hun livegeluid zo puur mogelijk vastlegt. Ook kijken ze uit naar samenwerkingen met muzikanten uit andere genres.

Hun invloeden? Denk aan João Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim en Amália Rodrigues, maar ook aan jazziconen zoals Ella Fitzgerald en Anita O’Day. “Hun muziek herinnert ons eraan dat minder vaak meer is, en dat ware muzikaliteit ligt in subtiliteit en ziel.”

Het liefst spelen ze op plekken waar écht wordt geluisterd: kleine kapellen, sfeervolle zalen of intieme podia. “Op een bijzondere avond in een kleine kapel kon je tussen de noten door een speld horen vallen. Dat zijn van die momenten die je bijblijven.”

En dromen? Die zijn er ook. “Een optreden op North Sea Jazz of in Casa da Música in Porto zou geweldig zijn. Maar een avond in een goed luistercafé, waar het publiek met open oren zit, is voor ons net zo waardevol.”

“We’ve always loved music that tells stories” they say. “Music that carries emotion, nostalgia, and a sense of cultural depth.” You’ll hear that passion in their interpretations of classics, but just as much in their own arrangements, full of improvisation and personal flair.

Their repertoire blends bossa, fado, samba and jazz ballads, always carefully selected to take listeners on an emotional ride. Right now, they’re working on an acoustic EP to capture the pure feel of their live sound, and they’re also looking forward to collaborating with musicians from other genres.

Their influences? Think João Gilberto, Antonio Carlos Jobim and Amália Rodrigues, but also jazz icons like Ella Fitzgerald and Anita O’Day. “Their music reminds us that less is often more, and that true artistry lies in subtlety and soul.”

They feel most at home in spaces where people really listen. Small chapels, intimate halls, and cozy stages. “We once played in a little chapel where you could hear a pin drop between the notes. That’s the kind of moment that sticks with you.”

And dreams? There are plenty. “Playing North Sea Jazz or Casa da Música in Porto would be amazing. But honestly, a night in a great listening café, that’s just as special to us.”
